Corporate Plans 

The Department of Finance Canada produced print versions of its corporate plans that outline departmental priorities for the year ahead. The library has several of these documents in its reserve collection. Corporate plans for 1990-1991, 1991-1992, 1992-1993, and 1993-1994 are included in the exhibition because these coincide with the exhibition's period of focus. When considered in relation to the other material presented, these documents provide insight into the history of the department and allow readers to chart the development of the department during a period that saw various changes in leadership, structure, and policy. 

Each corporate plan includes a preface written by the Deputy Minister in which he discusses the department's accomplishments and objectives for the coming year. Some of these objectives continue to impact the department today. In 1993-94, for example, telework and flexible work hours were top of mind, with Deputy Minister David A. Dodge commenting on the importance of balancing work and family responsibilities in the preface to the corporate plan for that year. Employment equity and taking steps to address it were also on the agenda, as was the impact of technology on workflow and the need to encourage the use of both official languages. These priorities remain a focus for the department today, nearly 35 years later.
