Introduction

This is an online version of an exhibition that will be presented in the library from April to June 2024. 

This exhibition was inspired by a donation the library received from a Senior Director in the Tax Policy Branch, who retired in the summer of 2023 following a long career at the department. The material includes a manual on harassment, a cookbook produced as part of the department's United Way Campaign, and a t-shirt that commemorates the balancing of the Budget in 1998. These items are presented alongside existing material from the library's Reserve Collection and offer a glimpse into the trajectory the department has taken over the course of its history. The exhibition focuses on the period of the late 1980s to the 1990s and presents a small snapshot of the department's rich and varied history. This exhibition is the first of a series of rotating exhibitions that will be displayed in the library during the coming year. Subsequent exhibitions will highlight different moments in the department's history and will draw attention to the development of the department, which has grown and adapted since its founding in 1867.
