Indigenomics: Taking a Seat at the Economic Table outlines the roles and responsibilities of the emerging modern Indigenous economy. Carol Anne Hilton, founder of the Indigenous Institute, discusses the tenets of this emerging economy and advocates for a new model of development that advances Indigenous self-determination, collective well-being, and reconciliation.
The book fills a void in current literature that provides knowledge for policymakers, economists, and governments at a time when reconciliation efforts are ongoing. The book was shortlisted for the 2021 Donner Prize and was awarded silver in the Nautilus Book Awards category "World Cultures' Transformational Growth and Development" in 2022.
Two copies of the book are available in print at the Finance Library (9022). eBook copies and an audiobook version are available through the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) (access requires an active OPL account).
The Indigenomics Institute was founded by Carol Anne Hilton and aims to encourage positive leadership and relationships to support the growth and development of Indigenous economies. This support is achieved through work in four core areas that focus on overcoming Indigenous economic barriers and adderssing challenges. These areas include a dialogue platform for Indigenous economic solutions; economic policy/research/analysis/planning; education/training; and development of partnerships.
"Indigenomics honors the powerful thinking of Indigenous wisdom of local economy, relationships and human values. Indigenomics is about increasing the role and visibility of Indigenous peoples in the new economy. It is about understanding indigenous ways of being and worldview. Indigenomics draws on ancient principles that have supported indigenous economies for thousands of years, and works to implement them as modern practices" (indigenomicsinstitute.com/about-us/).
